Updated: Nov 15, 2020

Grounding is a practice that can help you pull away from negative, unwanted thoughts/memories or challenging emotions.

These techniques may help distract you from what you are experiencing and refocus on what is happening in the present moment.

If you are feeling anxious, stressed, angry, sad, worried...

  1. Take a walk

Concentrate on your steps, notice the rhythm of your footsteps and how it feels to put your foot on the ground.

2. Listen to your surroundings

Take a few moments to listen to the noises around you. What do you hear? Dogs barking?

People talking? Traffic?

3. Sing

Turn on your favorite song and sing at top of your lungs.

4. Dance

Turn some of your favorite tunes and begin to dance, Let your body move in whatever way it wants to. This can be fun activity to do with your family as well.

5. Breathe

Start with inhale of 3 counts, hold the breath for 3 seconds, then exhale for 3 counts. Repeat, slowly working your way up to 8 counts.

6. Practice earthing

Walk bare foot in the grass, sand and dirt. Reconnect to a natural healing energy of Mother Earth.

7. Take Epsom salt bath

Epsom salt has cleansing abilities, which can help clear away negative energy that surrounds us from others or from ourselves.

8. Do 5-4-3-2-1-Grounding Technique

This technique gets you to use all your five senses to help you te get back to the present. It starts with you sitting comfortably, close your eyes and take a couple of deep breaths. In through your nose (count to 3), out through your mouth (to the count of 3). Open your eyes and look around you. Name out loud:

5 - things you can see

4 - things you can feel

3 - things you can hear

2 - things you can smell

1 - thing you can taste

These techniques work at a deep spiritual, mental, physical and emotional level. They make us feel centered, relaxed, solid and more balanced. They clear away all toxic vibrations, negative energy that our auras pick up from others or ourselves.
